Bedside Table out of Vintage Drawer

I absolutely love to get creative, out-of-the-ordinary commissions! it makes my job even more fun. In this case, the customers wanted a bedside table for their small bedroom made out of an old drawer that would be hung on the wall, as they had seen in a magazine picture. The idea is simple but quite effective!

We 'polished' the design by the agreed addition of a board that would cover half of the open top, to gain surface and be able to 'hide' some personal items underneath. They chose one of the drawers from my collection, a wooden one with an aqua front (taken from a late 50s kitchen cabinet), a white wooden knob and a piece of antique, quite thick pine floor board for the shelf. The bottom of the drawer was to be painted in a dark aqua colour, to match the front, and the rest of wooden parts would stay in their natural, lovely tones (everything treated, sanded, varnished and polished, of course!).

I also added a beech wood piece to 'crown' and finish the design, it comes from an old wardrobe and it used to support the bar to hang the clothes. Cut to measure and turned upside-down, it does look like the upstand mouldings some old bedside tables had at the back! it's painted white and distressed, to match the finish of the drawer front panel and the white knob.

So here it is, a rather unique, warm, colourful and full of personality bedside table! They liked the result and I'm so thrilled -I hope to get more like this kind of commisssions!

Measures: 31x 36cm, 20cm high with the upstand at the back.

Here are some of the parts, just cleaned and prior their transformation...
...and a few pics taken during the 'making of' process: sanding, treating the wood, painting the bottom of the drawer with a self-made aqua tone, and mounting all the parts:
